Cactus characters come to the Brighton Craft Fair!

After months of crocheting, creating and pot hunting, the day had finally arrived to unleash my new cactus characters – Cactus Kids UK – on the public!

I’ve always had a passion for art and love to make things, whether it is knitting or sewing, painting or even a spot of woodwork! I have always been a crafter, back when my Mum taught me to knit and I would make toys and jumpers. But the notion of actually selling something has always been a pipe dream. That was, until I came up with an idea which sparked my creativity and would hopefully capture people’s imagination.

I made my first cactus character with some left over wool from a baby yoda outfit I made, and a pot I wasn’t using and gave her a name – Cactus Kids UK was born! A collection of cacti to decorate your home, all with their own style and character, and their own name, and all totally unique as I don’t intend to make the same one twice! With ideas for special characters and limited editions, I couldn’t make them quick enough!

Brighton Craft Fair

After making a good collection, my first goal was a craft fair, let’s test these little cacti on the public! So at the beginning of May 2022 I had my first experience selling at a craft fair in Brighton. Being around like-minded creative people was really inspiring and encouraging, they offered some great advice and tips for my first experience.

I was excited to see how my cactus characters would be received by the public. There was always a fear that the concept just wouldn’t land. Although I felt it was an exciting idea with lots of potential, if others didn’t share my joy it would be a non-starter.

Seeing the response from the public to my creations and the smiles was really heart warming. Some of my “kids” went to new homes which was completely thrilling! I had realised a long held dream, but my journey with these cactus characters had only just begun. With lots of new character ideas and a website to get live it was time to really get working!!

Thank you to everyone that was at the fair, both exhibitor, visitor and organiser. Time to get the website live, and to get more craft fairs in the calendar!
